Buhari appoints Comptroller General for Immigrations, as North heads all Interior Ministry Agencies

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday approved the appointment of Mr. Mohammed Babandede as the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).

The recent appointment of Babandede, who is from Jigawa state, betrays diversity in the country’s Interior Ministry as all the agencies it supervises are currently led by Northerners.
These include Ahmed Ja’afaru (CG Prisons), Hameed Ali (CG Customs), Abdullahi Muhammadu Gana (CG NSCDC).

A statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of interior, Bassey Okon Akpanyung, in Abuja, said the appointment took effect from 15th of this month.

Until his appointment, the new Comptroller General was a Deputy Comptroller General (DCG) of the Nigeria Immigration Service Headquarters.

The statement added: “He replaces Mr. Martin Kure Abeshi, who retired from the Service at the end of his tenure.”
