PMAN, Actors Guild mourn; colleagues pay last respects
The Nigerian entertainment industry has once again lost one of its rare gems, Zainab Bukky Ajayi, who blessed the world with her inimitable acting talent. She passed on at the age of 82, at about 11am yesterday. Reports say that she has been battling with a heart related condition before she passed on at her Surulere residence. Before her death, she left an order to have her buried immediately; therefore she was laid to rest at Atan Cementery at 4pm.
Her demise has drawn reactions from her colleagues and protégés in the movie industry. Biodun Okeowo, puts it this way:” RIP great mummy Bukky Ajayi. May the angels of the lord receive your soul and forgive your entire sins ma.”
Yvonne Jegede, who posted a picture of herself kissing the deceased said on instagram:” My last kiss, I will forever cherish…
“#LifeWellSpentYvonne
Muyiwa Ademola was much more philosophical in his reaction: ”Sleep on mama … We love you but God loves you more. No matter how nice, no matter how beautiful, no matter how religious, we shall all taste death. Mama’s was a life well spent.Love you always mama” “Mama Bukky Ajayi your legacy will continue to live on…thanks for sharing your gift with the world. Adieu mama,” Mercy Aigbe writes. Another veteran actress, Joke Silva writes:”
Bye bye aunty as you go through “the open doors” to your Heavenly Father. Adieu. Recall that Madam Bukky Ajayi was honoured at the recent edition of African Magic Viewers Choice Awards. She was taken to the venue in a wheelchair giving an emotional speech that got many crying. Reacting to the sad news, the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) and the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) described her demise is a big loss to the entertainment industry.
Mr Agility Onwura, the Chairman, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the AGN, said she died at a time when the young generations of actors were still drawing from her wealth of experience. Onwura said: “The news of her death came to us as a surprise. Also, Mr Pretty Okafor, the National President of PMAN, mourned the late actress, extolling her contributions to the growth of Nollywood and the entertainment industry in Nigeria.
“She was an enviable professional, who inspired us with her outstanding roles in many home movies. “Her exit will leave an indelible footprint on the entertainment industry generally,” he said.
