A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Segun Odebunmi has said that the Minister for Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola does not have the capacity to deliver on the mandate of running three of the nation’s most critical sectors that hold the key to the revival of the economy at the end of this administration.
Odebunmi stated this in an interview with journalists yesterday in Abuja where he expressed doubts in the ability of the minister to solve the problems of power, roads and housing deficit which have accumulated over the past five decades.
Responding to a question on how the economy can be turned around by the President Buhari-led administration regarding the issue of power, road infrastructure as well as diversification of the economy, Hon. Odebunmi said: “At the beginning of this administration when ministers were announced, I was surprised the Ministries of Power, Works and Housing were given to one man to handle”.
According to him, these ministries hold the key to the economy of Nigeria. “Everybody needs power to survive even those at the grass roots. I want to say that the man in charge of these ministries can never tap the resources at the end of this administration, he has no resources with which to tap the available resources to do so.
“Why can’t we give it to a professional in power to handle it? How it will happen is not important to Nigerians, what they want to see is light on the streets. Let me say that in the last budget, for three month, we were not able to implement the budget, the Ministry of Power, especially the rural electrification failed to implement the 2015 budget.
He said that the ministries should be given to those who can deliver so that Nigerians can derive a lot of dividend from these ministries.
He warned the Buhari administration to stop toying with Nigerians and face the task of fulfilling the promises made during electioneering campaigns as anything to the contrary could result in a backlash.
