Mass protest likely in Kano as litre of fuel sells for N1,000

As fuel scarcity persists especially in the ancient city of Kano, where a litre of petroleum sells for N1,000, the people have threatened to embark on mass protest against the Independent Petroleum Marketers in the state, which they accused of hoarding the product. Already, prices of goods have skyrocketed in the city with a bag of rice selling for N10,000.

It sold at N8,000 and cooking oil sells at N1,400 as against N1,000 it was earlier sold. The peoples who lamented that they had suffered severe economic devastation for almost five years, insisted that they were not happy with the way government was handling the situation.

The decision of the people to embark on the protest was disclosed by the Chairman of the Kano Patriotic Forum, a Non-Governmental Organisation, Danjuma NaAllah, who alleged that instead of serving the state, the IPMAN members were busy using the situation to extort the people to make money. He pointed out that the fact that the state’s branch of DPR had sealed over 40 independent petroleum filling stations has further confirmed that the marketers are saboteurs.
