Lawyers urge Buhari to probe electoral killings in Bayelsa

A GROUP, Lawyers in Defence of Democracy, LDD, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to order investigation into the alleged role of security agents in the violence that characterised the  Bayelsa State governorship election.

It also warned that if punitive actions are not taken, future elections in the country may follow same trend.

Briefing newsmen in Lagos, the Lead Advocate of LDD, Mr. Ikechukwu Ikeji, frowned at the alleged involvement of security agencies in the violence that marred the poll in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.


His words: ‘’The allegation that security personnel handed electoral materials to members and thugs of a political party to rig the election remains a sour point which must be transparently investigated.

“It is clearly a dangerous situation which calls for thorough investigation by the Federal Government before it becomes a routine in future elections.”
