Gunmen Attack Community In Zamfara, Kill 20

Group of unknown gunmen attacked Mashema village in Bungudu local government area of Zamfara state, killing 20 people on the spot.

Speaking with Leadership, witnesses said that the gunmen suspected to be cattle rustlers stormed the village in the early hours of Monday, December 7, and began to shoot everyone on sight.

They said that they could hear how the gunmen were chanting “we will drive away the cows by all means”.

According to one of the witnesses, it was divine intervention that made the bandits to leave the community after killing 20 members.

“Otherwise, the number of casualties would have been more alarming due to the absence of security,” he added.

Abdulmalik Zubairu, the member of the House of Representatives representing the constituency, confirmed the incident and noted that it was the bloodiest attack in recent times “after the ones in Birnin Magaji and Yargalma in Maru local government”.

Zubairu said he was saddened and deeply disturbed by the situation in which so many innocent people were mercilessly massacred by bloodthirsty miscreants.

Commenting on the incident, Olufemi David, the state commissioner of police, said that he had ordered officers to bring normalcy to the area and ensure security for the community.

Last week, unidentified gumnen stormed Tangaran village in Anka local government area of the state. Officials of the Zamfara state police command said that at least four people lost their lives in the attack.
