The Abuja Federal High Court has granted bail to former National Security Adviser, NSA, Sambo Dasuki, and four others standing trial over alleged misappropriation and diversion of $2. 1bn meant for the purchase of weapons for the fight against insurgency.
Delivering judgment on the bail condition, Husseini Baba Yusuf granted bail to the accused persons set at the sum of N250m and on the condition that they produce a surety who must be a serving or retired civil servant not lower than the rank of a Director in the civil service.
He or she must also show possession of a property within Abuja worth N250m.
This is coming as a surprise to the Presidency as Buhari had hurriedly ordered the arrest of Dasuki and others who were indicted in an investigative panel on arms procurement.
The panel’s report was tweeted via the President’s official handle without inviting the former NSA for his own side of the story.
Others standing trial are former Director of Finance at the office of the NSA, Shuaibu Salisu, former Group General Manager of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Aminu Baba Kusa and two firms, Acacia Holdings Limited and Reliance Reference Hospital.
The accused persons were asked to deposit copies of their international passports with the Court Registrar and are expected to also notify the court prior to any travel arrangement outside Abuja.
More later…
