All 109 Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria are expected to each pay N20,000 as their contribution to the Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem.
This will sum up to N2,180,000 according to Senate President, Bukola Saraki who made this announcement on Tuesday, November 24, at the beginning of plenary and said it would be part of Senate’s contribution in honour of the fallen heroes.
“The Senate has resolved to request N20, 000 only from every Senator towards this appeal fund.
“The office of the Senate Leader will see to the collection of this amount and ensure that each senator gets an emblem.
“We are all expected to wear this emblem up to the 15th of January 2016, the Armed Forces Remembrance Day,” he said.
He noted that President Muhammadu Buhari had launched the emblem and appeal fund to mark the remembrance of the Armed Forces and further noted that it was important to use the platform to appreciate Nigeria’s fallen heroes.
The 8th Senate suggestion box was also launched at the end of plenary to enable the lawmakers receive suggestions from their various constituents.
Senate Spokesperson, Aliyu Sabi speaking to news men stated that the suggestion box as provided in the legislative agenda would address issues of Nigerians especially those who do not have access to new media.
“The suggestion box is part and parcel of the legislative agenda.
“The purpose is to take inputs of all Nigerians, all suggestions will surely be looked into by the 8th senate,” Sabi said.
Buhari already kicked off launching the 2016 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem and Appeal Fund on November 16, and has now seen the legislative arm of Government join in.
